Resonate Artist Of The Week: Tomorrow Syndicate
We’ve had our eyes [& ears] well and truly opened this week to an incredible band who’ve been on the Scottish scene for a while now. Tomorrow Syndicate released a superlative double a-side a few weeks ago and we’ve been delving into their back catalogue with great joy.
Whilst we’ve enjoyed digging through previous releases which include the albums ‘Future Tense’ & ‘Citizen Input’, Tomorrow Syndicate’s latest single ‘Populous’ b/w ‘Living In Simulation’ positively brims with their characteristic space age pop hooks. It is the perfect fermentation of Tomorrow Syndicate’s sound so far, with a boisterous analogue ethos realised in a Giorgio Moroder electronic stomp which maintains it’s mellower subtleties as the band drive on a pastoral plane of future’s past. Both sides of the 7” single have been played on 6Music and as Concrete Island describe “in a parallel universe could be the sleeper hit of late summer" .
There’s a sensibility with ‘Populous’ with it’s gritty Moroder’esque driving bass and sonic exploring synth melodies - with a Tangerine Dream likeness. B-side ‘Living In Simulation’ is an instrumental track which delivers a darker, more sinister tone to it’s previous counterpart.
Tomorrow Syndicate’s repertoire is available on streaming platforms and on Bandcamp. It includes their debut singles ‘Altered State/ Okulomotor’ and ‘Into The Void / X For The Unknown’ as well as their debut album ‘Future Tense’ - which universally attained rave reviews and coveted plays with 6Music. The group’s following six track mini album ‘Citizen Input’ was released June 2019 which broke free from the confines of their home recording set-up, this time recording with Luigi Pasquini at Anchor Lane Studios in Glasgow. The record is underpinned by a series of mesmeric Moog grooves and propulsive Dinger-esque motorik beats that hypnotize and energise.
Regular radio support from the likes of Gideon Coe & Steve Lamaq assure us there is yet more greatness to come from this Glasgow Southside outfit and with news that work will begin on their new album later this year, we’re prepped and ready for another dose of outstanding sci-fi hinged dreaminess.
