Resonate Artist Of The Week: Acutek
This week’s artist of the week comes from high flying hypnotic techno producer Acutek. The highlands producer has hit high critical acclaim with cuts on Space City Recordings, Gibbon Records, Biotech Recordings and his latest EP ‘Lo-Fi Warp’ released on Unknown Territory.
With over a decade of musical experience, Acutek’s palate can be described as ethereal Techno with rough edges. Citing inspiration from Slam, Petrichor, Frai.zer, Pan-Pot and more, atmospheric spaces and storytelling breaks are met frequently by gritty and potent grooves in abundance. A talisman student of Glasgow’s revered SubSine Academy (dubbed ‘Soma Skool’ by many), Acutek has often rubbed shoulders with some of Techno’s most-celebrated artists whilst learning the tools of the trade.
Duncan McBean’s Acutek moniker undoubtedly captures an unnerving darkness with tracks such as ‘This Is’ & ‘Dark T’, shaken up with more melodic moments present in this new EP ‘Lo-Fi Warp’. Techno, house, entrancing make this EP unpredictable and energetic. There’s a cacophony of acidic lasers, heart rushing bass patterns present in ‘Noise Factory’ that make us reminisce and long for the days where clubs open their doors. There’s a complexity to this entire EP, with distinguished layering of synths, bass rhythms, chord sequences and effects. He’s expertly crafted the maintained the perfect balance of light and dark - something often difficult to achieve in techno music. On remix duties Acutek welcomes fellow Scot Ross Hiller and Berlin based producer Israel Toledo who complete the 5-track package. You can download here.
Acutek has already had the pleasure of supporting some of the industry’s finest names. Jasper James, Jay Lumen, Stephano Noferini, Gary Beck, Pleasurekraft, Bontan, Anna, Lex Gorrie & Quail. We’re in no doubt that Acutek will be back playing amongst the biggest names when we see a revival of our much loved live sector.
