Resonate Artist of The Week : Ruby Gaines

This week’s Resonate Artist Of The Week is Ruby Gaines.. ‘Without A Gun’, is the second single by Ruby Gaines who draws influence from the likes of Jeff Buckley, Fiona Apple & Billie Holiday. Her menacingly endearing vocal tone on full display in this driving percussive track.

‘Without A Gun’ is the sumptuous follow up to Gaines’ debut earlier this year with ‘Cardamom’ . It presents a poignant and powerful take on teenage angst and anxieties. It explores the loneliness associated with mental health issues, and the challenges faced by young people as they grow up, try to fit in and both discover and come to terms with who they truly are. 

‘Without A Gun’ has that feeling of proliferation, as if picked straight from an Ennio Morriconne soundtrack - truly masterful in it’s composition and delivery. There’s a sleekness to the production, smoothness to Gaine’s vocal refrain and swinging, creepy guitar and bass melodies which hypnotises listeners.
