Join Arthur Ehlinger and Dr. John Markey as they take you through the ever-expanding world of live music streaming. Having published a ground-breaking paper this year on the subject, they’ll discuss everything you need to know about playing live music online. This talk will include practical steps on how to operate live streams for yourself and others, the many positive aspects it can have on an artist’s career and how to deal with some of the potential issues that may arise. This will be followed a Q&A session where you can pick the brains of these two experts.

Dr. John Markey (SAE Institute)

Dr. John Markey is an affiliate lecturer in Music at the University of Glasgow as well as the programme-committee chair for Music Business at the SAE Institute UK & Europe. A published academic in the music industries, he also operates the long running Glasgow live events promotion company We Should Hang Out More, releases electronic music under the pseudonym Saol Nua, operates electronic music label In The Event of Capture and has previously worked on social media campaigns with Glasgow management company Bounse MGMT and Distiller Records. 

Arthur Ehlinger (SAE Institute)

PhD Researcher and Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of Glasgow, Arthur has been working in the music and technology industries for the past seven years in various companies in France and the UK. His current research focuses on the work of musicians on Twitch, highlighting numerous irregularities as well as hopeful prospects. His areas of expertise include popular music, digital platforms, cultural capitalism, copyrights and video games amongst other things.
