In our debut Resonate International session, Kim Hawes and Mark Robinson are joined by Guido Weijerman of Anna Agency in the Netherlands to discuss ever changing landscape of touring how touring it has changed over the past 15/20 years. They will give us the inside into taking artists across the globe and how best to prepare… not to mention all the recent new red tape and logistical challenges facing the music industry.
Kim Hawes (Confessions Of A Female Tour Manager)
Kim Hawes has worked in the music industry for over 30 years with some of the biggest and baddest bands there are. She blagged her way into working merchandise for Elvis Costello which led to a job merching Rush all around Europe. She spent many years sleeping underneath Lemmy from Motorhead….on a tour bus.
She toured with Black Sabbath just as Ronnie James Dio entered the band and they unleashed Heaven & Hell on the world. She threw Madonna of her stage, turned Courtney Love down, had to say no to Nelson Mandela, and had to deal with the aftermath of Chumbawumba drenching the deputy Prime Minister John Prescott. Yes there are tales of Sex, Drugs & Rock’N’Roll, debauchery and fights, suitcases full of cash and Hells Angels….there might even be a TV thrown out of a window, but Kim’s story is so so much more. Her memoir Lipstick & Leather will be published by Sandstone Press in early 2002 and will be a rollercoaster ride of Rock’N’Roll anecdotes as well as being a serious introduction to the world of touring and the struggles that Kim faced as a woman in a male-dominated industry and how she refused to compromise…ever!

Mark Robinson (Asylum Talent)
As a teenager Mark was fascinated by his local record store, every time he walked past he would be enticed in by the music and would spend all the time he could there pestering the staff to play him the latest releases. Whilst working in a record shop Mark met the managers of pioneering London Pirate Radio station GIRLS FM and was given a weekly prime time Saturday night show. Here he quickly developed a sizable & loyal following that would always support him at gigs. Playing regular sets in the premier Clubs of the capital such as Ministry of Sound, The Cross, Turnmills, Club UK, EC1, Bagleys and more it wasn't long before Mark started to get international gig offers.
After 7 great years at Peppermint Jam Mark left to set up his own consultancy business and his first project was with respected London clubbing brand Kinky Malinki. Tasked with compiling and mixing their new series of albums Mark teamed up with the brand for a series of successful compilation albums and was soon their main resident DJ touring the Globe with the brand playing over 150 events worldwide. Mark then moved to another successful UK/Ibiza based party brand, Pukka Up. The already famous Ibiza Boat Party brand headhunted Mark to become a director and create their new label group and management company.
