The Sea Atlas is like all maps, sheltered havens to open expanses that will weather the harshest storms. The Sea Atlas, a.k.a Calum Buchanan, is a talented artist hailing from the Isle of Lewis in the Hebrides.

The winter of 2016/17 seen a change in his life, where he ran home to an island in the North Atlantic. Here he locked himself away in a cabin on the shores of a sea loch on his ancestral family croft and wrote and recorded in a makeshift studio.

The harsh winter surroundings and winter gales can be heard in the depths of the release "dreams", this energy was transferred into the recordings creating an almost ethereal atmospheric indie folk sound, that is as much his sound as the sound of the islands.

With the backing band of close friends he has been able to achieve an almost orchestral like indie rock sound from a four piece band that will have you torn between dancing through night to finding a lost part of you in the stripped back heartfelt songs.

Single ‘London’, released in 2019, showcases Calum’s true talent within a full production. The song is progressive and leads you to the final pinicle moments where Calum sings ‘I am done now’.

“It’s about being an islander at heart and every time you go to the city you know deep down it really isn’t the place for you, and how a city is more isolating than being on an island. When really the city “London” is the island where you will really feel isolated and disconnected from the world”.

Calum prepares to release new singles in 2021.
