Resonate Artist Of The Week : Rhona MacFarlane (Premiere)

Pleased to announce this week’s Resonate Artist Of The Week is singer-songwriter Rhona Macfarlane. An artist whose reflective story telling recalls a range of influences including Joni Mitchell, Nick Drake, John Martyn and Adrianne Lenker.

We have the honour of premiering Rhona’s imminent single ‘No Rain’ here on Resonate and which you can pre-save here https://rhonamacfarlane.co.uk/links/. A poignant song capturing the passing of time and the power and depth of family relationships. Although the song captures an emotional intensity it still manages to be simultaneously uplifting.

“The idea for the song came from a passing remark made to me by someone who had just lost their life partner, she said...‘well at least there’s no rain outside.’ It struck me that this was equally sad, stoic and hopeful and reminded me that even in times of loneliness and sadness, there is always something to be grateful for, even if it’s as simple as a sunny day.

A graduate of The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Rhona is a versatile musician performing with guitar or piano, often introducing new sounds with the addition of string accompaniments.  ‘No Rain’s opening lyrics set against a bare guitar and cello line with exposed vocals set the tone for the listener but as the track builds it opens out to an uplifting and hopeful chorus joined by celebratory, soaring strings. Her songs are personal, honest and intimate. Rhona’s music has been widely supported by the likes of Roddy Hart, Iain Anderson and others. ‘No Rain’ is the second single from Rhona Macfarlane’s forthcoming EP ‘Closing the Window’ due for release on the 12th of November.

Make sure you follow Rhona on Facebook, Instagram & Twitter and stay tuned for her incoming EP set for release next month.
