Resonate Artist Of The Week : Nimbus Sextet

This week’s Resonate Artist Of The Week is Nimbus Sextet. Fresh off the back of their ‘Dreams Fulfilled’ album, it’s undeniable that this group of exceptionally sophisticated musicians have delivered a masterpiece.

Recognised as a major talent on the UK Jazz scene, Nimbus Sextet are a Glasgow based collective led by pianist Joe Nichols and blend jazz with instantly relatable melodic hooks with driving grooves.

The core of the Nimbus Sextet sound comes courtesy of Joe with long-time collaborators Alex Palmer and Mischa Stevens. The trio met while studying at Edinburgh University and have continued to perform together ever since. Nimbus Sextet was fully formed in 2018 with the addition of Martin Fell and Euan Allardice joining the line-up with James Mackay arriving later.

Dreams Fulfilled landed last week on Acid Jazz Records, following on from the release of singles “Trap Door” & “Lily White” featuring the vocal talents on Anthony Thomas. The 6-track album is indisputable in it’s finesse and sophistication. Infectiously original music that spans the musical spectrum drawing influence from the likes Gill Scott-Heron & Herbie Hancock.

“Dreams Fulfilled” is on now on Acid Jazz Records & available on vinyl, soft pack CD and digitally. You can pick up a copy here.
