Meet The Media has become one of Resonate’s signature sessions. Bringing working media professionals from across radio, journalism, tv and others to an intimate space for valuable 1-2-1 time. We welcome professionals from a wide range of genres from pop to hip hop, dance and everything in between.
Jo Dargie (Freelance Journalist)
Jo Dargie is a freelance music journalist and digital creative in the world of dance music. As a journalist, Jo has covered major festivals, events and new releases. As well as interviewing the likes of Kerri Chandler, Dave Browning and Slam. Since returning to Scotland from a season in Ibiza as a clubs writer for Ibiza Spotlight. Jo has delivered industry-tailored digital marketing and PR services for brands within electronic music to level up their digital presence whilst staying true to their club culture roots. Now, she is preparing to launch these services with a few additions under new brand Outraveous by Jo Dargie.
In 2021, Jo joined The Back 2 Back Podcast as a presenter interviewing up and coming DJs, and hosted multiple panels for The Scottish Electronic Music Conference’s virtual edition. Finally, Jo is a co-owner of Perth based recording studio and rehearsal room The Velvet Lounge & Studio.
Shereen Cutkelvin (BBC Introducing)
Shereen Cutkelvin is a 24 year old X Factor semi-finalist who has had top 5 singles with Neon Jungle, a top 10 album and performed on the same billing as Taylor Swift. Shereen has been presenting BBC Introducing in Scotland alongside Phoebe I-H since October 2020; Shereen's first foray into the world of live radio.
As a child Shereen would sneak into her dad's rehearsal rooms to hear him sing - the inspiration for Shereen to make the move to London aged just 16 where she was signed with Sony RCA as part of Neon Jungle.
Michelle Harkness (Groove City Radio)
Michelle Harkness is chief operator at Glasgow’s Groove City Radio. Her encyclopedia knowledge of the electronic music scene is hard matched and Michelle’s experience working with Groove has seen her develop the station ten-fold and in 2020 it gained it’s FM license. Michelle is a regular artist liaison at numerous electronic events across Scotland and works with the likes of Carl Cox, Paul Van Dyk, Ben Nicky and others.
Sanjeev Man (Hip Hop Scotland / BBC The Social)
Sanjeev is a 24 year-old journalist, content creator featured in The Scotsman, BBC The Nine, Hip Hop Scotland, and has a love for all things music, film, gaming, and Liverpool FC. The MLitt Media and Communications graduate (with distinction) prides himself on producing content on a variety of relevant subjects from music reviews to gaming and socialising to the legalisation of marijuana and disability rights issues. The hip-hop enthusiast is also a music producer- and makes beats for several Scottish rappers. He has recently started a podcast for Hip-hop Scotland which is also available on Spotify as well as music. In addition, Sanjeev is a development worker for the Pathfinders Neuromuscular Alliance. A charity that aims to promote quality of life for people with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and other similar conditions. Sanjeev also works with music charity Drake Scotland as a freelance consultant and also aims to raise awareness about the lack of disabled musicians and access to venues.
Aisha Fatunmbi-Randall (Snack Mag)
Aisha is a BA Honours Journalism graduate and a full time content writer and social media executive. She is immensely passionate about culture, creativity, diversity and a hugely devoted writer who has spent four years writing for music and cultural publications as a freelance journalist.
Currently she is a regular contributing writer for SNACK Magazine, one of Scotland’s leading arts and culture platforms. Since joining the SNACK team Aisha has written feature pieces on social issues and music reviews for a wide variety of genres, as well as interviews, most recently interviewing 2020’s SAY Award winner NOVA.
Aisha is also a staff music writer for DSTNGR, a music, fashion and culture movement based out of London with a focus on diversity, where she writes daily music reviews.
Craig Gornall (Alive & Amplified)
Craig has over 15 years experience working in various areas of the music industry. He started off presenting a new music show on Leith FM (which became Shore Radio) and moved onto Radio Summerhall. He runs his own music blog Alive & Amplified and podcast The Music Now, celebrating not only Scottish music, but all music from over the world. Craig is a regular guest on BBC Radio chatting about new music and current music news. As well as presenting his own, he’s produced podcasts for Wide Days, Off The Record, From Under The Duvet & Shout! Podcast. He is also Head of Music for brand new Edinburgh venture, Shout! The Scottish Music Experience. Craig also works as a freelance gig rep for PCL Presents, This Feeling & Sucker.
Carl Loben (DJ Mag)
Carl Loben has been a music journalist since the early ‘90s. He wrote for the weekly music paper Melody Maker for most of the 1990s, and has been on the staff at DJ Magazine for most of the past two decades. He’s currently the Editor-in-Chief at DJ Mag, the biggest electronic music title in the world.
As well as his regular titles, Carl has also written for MOJO magazine, The Guardian, Huffington Post, The Quietus, Generator and FACT, amongst others, and wrote the electronic music section of the Billboard Music Encyclopaedia in the early noughties, as well as lots of artist biogs and sleeve notes.
Carl has interviewed many significant figures in music over the years, and has also given numerous media interviews himself — from Newsround to Newsnight, and lots of points in between. The book he’s co-authored, Renegade Snares: The Resistance and Resilience of Drum & Bass, has just been published by Jawbone Press.
Mya Brown (Discovery Music Scotland)
Hailing from the south side of Glasgow, Mya Brown is an accomplished singer-songwriter, freelance music journalist and LGBTQ+ activist with over six years of industry experience in Music, Radio and Press. Their current position at Discovery Music Scotland as a writer allows them to provide an exclusive insight into the Scottish music scene.
