In recent times as income has depleted in other areas of the music industry, sync has always appeared lucrative. We speak to an incredibly talented and experienced panel who work across the spectrum and hear their thoughts on how you compete in this crowded market and avoid getting that sinking feeling.
Pam Lewis-Rudden (Plutonic Group Syncs)
Pam Lewis-Rudden, a veteran music executive with 30+ years of music industry experience, including stints at U.S labels, RCA, MCA and Uptown Records, founded Plutonic Group Syncs, a boutique sync licensing agency, in 2012.
As a Sync Licensing Specialist, she works with a select global network of indie labels, publishers and management companies from her office in North London.
Innovation, creativity and skill go into each project – her focus being on finding the perfect soundtrack for every scene.
Placement credits include hit TV series, ‘Stanger Things’, ‘Dark’, 'Normal People', 'Tyler Perry's “Sistas”, from Netflix trailer spots on ‘Deaf U’ to advertising campaigns for National Australian Bank (NAB), Booking.com, Cole-Haan, and cycling app, Zwift.
Hannah Peel (Composer/Artist/Broadcast)
Hannah Peel is a Northern Irish artist, composer, producer and broadcaster. Her solo record career includes the shortlisted 2021 Mercury Music Prize electronic album, Fir Wave; 2016's Awake But Always Dreaming, which became an ode to her grandmother’s mind as she lived with dementia; and the space-themed Mary Casio: Journey to Cassiopeia, scored for synthesisers and a 30 piece colliery brass band.
Peel navigates synthesisers, electronics, classical orchestral work, hand punched music boxes and unique sound world compositions for TV and film as well as her own solo albums.
Following her Emmy-nominated score for Game Of Thrones: The Last Watch, her soundtrack for TV psychological thriller, The Deceived won the Music Producer’s Guild "Best UK original Score Recording of 2021.”
Hannah also recently composed the music for Sky TV's 7-part series Midwich Cuckoos which came out as a soundtrack album on Invada Records.
A regular collaborator with Paul Weller, in 2018 she conducted and wrote all the orchestral arrangements for his shows at London's Royal Festival Hall and contributed to his new no.1 album On Sunset.
In April 2022 Hannah released a new, critically acclaimed album The Unfolding with Paraorchestra and performed the record in its entirety with the orchestra at a headline show in London's Barbican. She is also a regular presenter on the BBC Radio 3 show, Night Tracks.
Codie Childs (Playstation Studios)
Codie Childs is a Music Supervisor at Sony Interactive Entertainment Europe, as part of the PlayStation Studios Creative Arts team. She works on the music for in-development video games, as well as global ad campaigns and marketing for the brand. Prior to PlayStation, Codie music supervised projects within film, TV and advertising in the UK, including as an Associate Music Supervisor on the documentary series, Uprising (dir. McQueen, Rogan) and On The Morning You Wake (to the End of the World), a VR documentary experience (dir. Brett, Colinart, Jamison). Other highlights include adverts for companies like Nike, Three, Vodafone, and the International Red Cross.
Chloe Heatlie (Massive Music)
Chloe Heatlie is a Scottish music supervisor and producer currently working at the international creative music agency, MassiveMusic. She trained in Musical Theatre at Motherwell College (Northumbria University) and the Royal Academy of Music in London. She specialises in music for advertising and regularly works on bespoke composition, catalogue searches, commercial music searches and music licensing for advertising. Chloe has recently worked on projects for Asahi, Sainsbury’s, Superbet, Poretti & Google.
