Q&A: Fog Bandits
This week we caught up with Jamie from Fog Bandits we got stuck into the band’s love for Star Wars, band member dynamics and whats coming up in the band’s future.
1. If each of you had to describe your personality using a song title, what would it be and why?
The song title I would use to describe the band’s personality is "Burning Down the House" by Talking Heads. We can be a very scattered and chaotic bunch to get a hold of and for some reason the voice David Byrne - particularly the energy - of this song sums that feeling up nicely. Also we all kinda get along like a house on fire so it makes sense in my head at least.
2. What’s something surprising or quirky about each of you that fans wouldn’t know just from listening to your music?
We are all massive nerds. Star wars? Yep. Batman? Quadruple yep. DND? Mostly yep. I feel like all the best bands are filled by nerds though - even the ones that actually look really cool.
3. When you’re not making music, what are your favorite ways to unwind or get inspired? Any hobbies or passions outside of the band that you’re really into?
So a big thing that comes into play with us is that I love theatre and drama. I love acting on stage and bringing that kinda heightened sense to music is so much fun and interesting for a rock band to do. Makes the music become restrained and that flare brings a lot of life to us on stage.
4. If Fog Bandits were a group of superheroes, what would each of your superpowers be, and how do they reflect your roles in the band?
Fog Bandits does sound like some sorta superhero group come to think of it! Our powers would be the power to summon smoke at will (no smoke machine needed on stage woohoo). Its hard to answer this one cos we all bring very different things to this band. I bring a lot of the songs to the table. Then Dylan, Nico and Adam clean them up and make them better. Or then Dylan is a much more visual thinker than me, Nico helps sorta keep things chilled and Adam is glue can't imagine this band functioning without him on drums.
5. What’s the last thing that made you laugh, whether it was on tour, in the studio, or just hanging out together?
We have been recording a lot recently and discovered that the studio we use has a PS4 upstairs. Watching our bassist Nico try to teach himself how to play spider-man was so inexplicably hilarious. He got so into it was a little intense.
6. What can fans expect from you in the second half of the year?
We are very excited to get back playing shows soon! We are deep in production of something a little more ambitious behind the scenes and we are starting to drip feed that work into our live shows so hopefully it'll pay off!
