Q&A - Cody Feechan

This week we spoke with Cody Feechan for our artist of the week Q&A. The bold songstress has enjoyed great success with her music over the past few years. Her single Breathe reached #2 in the iTunes Singer-Songwriter Chart in March 2021, before quickly climbing its way up in the Official iTunes Chart and reaching #1 in the Amazon Music Best Sellers

The UK's biggest country band The Shires featured Cody on their 'UK Artist Spotlight' Apple Music Radio in March 2022, with the band’s very own Ben Earle selecting Cody as one of his ‘Ones To Watch’ on Absolute Radio Country in 2022.

Home is the heartfelt new single from Scottish singer-songwriter Cody Feechan, set for release on Friday 26 May.  Based on the feeling of comfort that comes from a strong and healthy relationship, Home is an uplifting and romantic track, dedicated to that loved one who provides a sense of stability to their partner, wherever they are in the world.

The alternative rock-pop single has a country twang, drawing attention to the husky depth of Fife-based Cody’s vocals, and the subtle Scottish lilt she is becoming known for.

Cody Feechan said: “The word home can have a number of connotations, and its meaning to different people can often change over time. This track is about that one person in your life who feels familiar and safe; who feels like home.

“I wrote this song a few years ago and have been sitting on it for a while. It only took me a few days to get the lyrics and the basic melody down. When I brought it forward to the band, we spent a few weeks working on different ideas for the track and everything eventually fell into place.”

Having been compared to the likes of Kelly Jones (Stereophonics) and Sharleen Spiteri (Texas) in the past, Cody’s brand of anthemic pop-rock manages to sound somewhat familiar, yet wholly unique.

Home was recorded in Gorbals Sound Recording Studio in Glasgow, and was later mixed by Bruce Rintoul. As well as performing the vocals on the track, Cody also plays acoustic guitar. She is joined by Keir Smith on lead guitar, James McMurray on keyboard, James Martin on drums and Steven Smith on bass guitar. The single will be available to stream and download on all digital platforms from Friday 26 May 2023

Tell us about your journey and how you started in music?

Music has always been a passion of mines. My dad taught me to play guitar when I was very young so I spent a lot of my childhood playing guitar and singing. I then started writing my own songs and I grew to love the whole song-writing process. I started off on the gig scene initially on my own doing mostly acoustic sets. It wasn’t until around 2018 that I first started playing with my band. The guys in my band are amazing!

How would you sum your artist project up in three words?

I would sum up my new single release as... Exciting. Romantic. Country.

What festivals are you looking forward to this summer?

I am looking forward to a busy summer of festivals and gigs! Some of the festivals I am due to play include Butefest, Eilean Dorcha Festival, Scottish Traditional Boat Festival, Meadows Festival. I also have a few other things happening which have still to be announced!

Where do you find inspiration for songwriting?

I always go through periods where I write lots then I have a few months where I don’t write as much. I always find it easier to write songs when there is something happening in my life.. whether its positive or negative. It’s like writing in a diary. For me, writing songs is my way of letting my emotions out. It’s therapy!

Can you tell us more about your new single out tomorrow (26th May) ?

My new single ‘Home’ is out on Friday 26th May. The word Home can mean so many different things to each individual. But for me, this track is about having that one person in your life who feels like home. I’ve been sitting on this song for a while and the time now feels right for it to be released.

What can we expect from Cody Feechan in the near future?

I have spent the last few months writing lots of new songs so I’m looking forward to getting this new material out there for everyone to hear.
