Resonate Artist of the Week: Georgia Cécile

Our artist of the week champion is Scottish jazz sensation Georgia Cécile who delighted us with her simply outstanding debut album ‘Only The Lover Sings’ last week.

Undoubtedly one of the hottest names on the jazz circuit and one who has scooped such accolades as ‘Best Vocalist’ [Scottish Jazz Awards], one of The Herald’s ‘Ones To Watch’ and countless BBC Radio plays.

The album ‘Only The Lover Sings’ is remarkable - from start to finish, Georgia’s effortlessly smooth vocals really do give you tingles. The likes of 'Always Be Alright’ bring a subtle funk to the album, with popping syncopated piano and luscious horn accompaniments, contrast to the sultry reflective mood of ‘Goodbye Love’ - where her contemplative lyrics are supported with magical romantic waltz instrumentation.
It’s near impossible to pick must-listen tracks from this 10-track triumph however penultimate track ‘Blue Is Just A Colour’ is a groover. Upbeat & fun, it is a track that oozes personality.

Tonally, Georgia has her own unique identity, however we cannot help but draw parallels to the modern greats of Norah Jones, Jessie Ware & Sara Bareilles. Sonically, this album encapsulates everything that makes jazz extraordinary and transports us back to the days of Dinah Washington, Count Basie, Oscar Peterson and Betty Carter.
