For Fans Of: happydaze, Paramore and Lower than Atlantis
Berta Kennedy is a contemporary indie/alt-pop producer and singer/songwriter from Greenock with a distinct sound inspired by the likes of Ravyn Lenae, Justin Timberlake and Alt-J. Brewing a fresh blend of 90’s RnB and current alt-rock, her music is charismatically experimental as it welcomes you into a kaleidoscope of homemade textures and fierce hooks. A dexterous talent, Berta writes, performs and records from home, before mixing and mastering the tracks herself.
Fresh of the back of supporting Brooke Combe at King Tuts earlier this week, new single ‘Free Swimming’ depicts a dazzlingly crisp production and 1950’s doo-woop-meets-rock vocals.
Her last single ‘Cycles ‘ (and its B-side a Tomorrow Thing), have been featured on BBC Radio Scotland multiple times. Following this recognition, Berta was selected to perform at the Resonate Music Conference 2020 at St. Luke’s, Glasgow. Berta Kennedy has also been acknowledged on Vic Galloway’s (BBC Radio Scotland) 25 Scottish Artists to Watch in 2021. Gigs on the horizon include support slots for the Brooke Combe show at King Tuts Summer Nights, John Rush at St. Luke’s, and a BBC Live Session at the Quay.
Her latest single, Free-Swimming, is a vibrant pop song jam-packed with hooks and sporting a unique marine theme. This aquatic-inspired and electrifying instrumental contains looped electric guitar riffs - pulsating the track with high energy. Grounding the fusion of styles and packaging them up as alt-pop, the synthesiser, 808 beat and pop-production give the song a modern and fresh sound. Free-Swimming submerges its listeners – quite literally – into a different place.
