Chair: Tamara Schlesinger [Founder - Hen Hoose]
Speakers: Carla J. Easton [Artist/Singer-Songwriter] & Lou Rowland [Artist - Mokulsa]
Tamara Schlesinger (founder of Hen Hoose), Carla J. Easton (artist) and Lou Rowland (artist – Mokulsa) will join together for an insightful conversation on gender inequality in the music industry, the power of creative collaboration, and the critical role mentorship plays in supporting women and non-binary artists.
Hen Hoose, a groundbreaking Scottish collective, was created to challenge and dismantle the barriers that have kept women and non-binary musicians underrepresented in technical and creative roles for far too long.
This conversation will explore the origins of Hen Hoose and how it provides an empowering space for collaboration across genres, sparking innovation and encouraging artists to push beyond their comfort zones. They will share personal stories of how collaboration within the collective has driven their creative growth, from songwriting to production.
They will also address the stark realities of gender inequality in the music industry, where women represent just a small percentage of songwriters, producers, and engineers. The panelists will explain how Hen Hoose is tackling these issues by fostering a supportive, inclusive environment and providing mentorship that gives artists the skills and confidence to thrive.
Finally, the conversation will look ahead to the broader impact Hen Hoose is making on the Scottish music scene and beyond, outlining their vision for future projects and how collectives like Hen Hoose can be a catalyst for industry-wide change. This session is a must for anyone interested in how gender equality and collaboration can reshape the future of music.
